Turning a commercial unit into a one-bedroom flat and a studio.
Good news.
Last month we signed off the works on a change of use in Benalmádena — a ground-floor unit in Arroyo de la Miel that had spent years as a painting workshop. In Spain a change of use (cambio de uso) is a consent in its own right, separate from the building work: before a single wall comes down, the town hall has to accept that a commercial unit can legally become housing. After some patient work on plan, it now holds a one-bedroom flat, a studio flat and a storeroom.
Here are a few photographs of the finished works. The original state is further down the page.
