One of the biggest changes in the office — and one of the best — came out of the executive master’s I took between 2008 and 2009. Promálaga, Málaga City Council’s business development agency, gave me a scholarship for the first executive master’s degree for technology entrepreneurs, run by the ESESA business school together with Emotools.
What I learnt there was a real help to the practice: the conventional subjects (marketing, finance, market research, human resources) as much as the less usual ones (patent strategy, managing R&D and so on). I won’t pretend I can separate how much came from the course and how much from the business simply growing up on its own. What I can say is that the office’s turnover grew 2.3-fold from 2008 to 2009, and a good part of that has to do with understanding the management side of a practice more deeply — which is precisely what the master’s gave me.
