Hotel Origen is a boutique hotel project by Klic Arquitectos in Alcaidesa (La Línea de la Concepción–San Roque, Cádiz), conceived as an extension of the landscape facing the Strait of Gibraltar. In this case study, we walk you through the key points of the project.
The brief and the site
Alcaidesa is a unique enclave in the Campo de Gibraltar, set between golf courses, the sea and the mountains, with open views of the Strait. The challenge: a discreetly luxurious hotel that blends into this setting without imposing on it, designed for the international traveller drawn to the Strait.
Plot constraints
Topography and views set the rules. The land slopes down towards the sea, which shapes how the building sits on the plot: the views had to be protected, the breeze put to good use and privacy between rooms guaranteed, without giving up the connection with the landscape.
The architectural solution
The proposal rests on a light footprint: low-rise volumes stepped along the natural slope, following the terrain rather than flattening it. This protects the views, organises privacy and creates a journey through the accommodation, dining, spa and outdoor areas.
Materials and integration with the landscape
Local materials and a restrained palette reinforce the Mediterranean, discreet-luxury character. The architecture seeks to recede in favour of the landscape: the setting — golf, sea and open sky — takes centre stage, and the hotel is its frame.
A programme designed around the hotel’s operation
Every decision starts from the business model: accommodation, dining, spa and experiences linked to golf, the sea and the culture of the Campo de Gibraltar. The aim is for every square metre to contribute both to the guest experience and to the hotel’s profitability.
