Teaching at the Málaga School of Architecture — The Early Days (9)

In the 2009–2010 academic year I was taken on as a lecturer at the Málaga School of Architecture — the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura, part of the University of Málaga.
It turned out to be another of the moments that taught me most about running the office, because it had me rubbing shoulders with the leading architects in the province.
It was a privilege to work alongside people like Luís Machuca (the younger), Ciro de la Torre, Eduardo Rojas, Fernando Pérez del Pulgar and Javier Boned, along with the school’s director, José Ramón Moreno, Ángel Pérez Mora, José Luís Jiliberto, Lorenzo Díaz Cabiale and others. Seeing how something as large as a university actually works showed me what big organisations can do and where they come unstuck, and it made me think hard about how to steer the growth of my own practice. Beyond that, it was a place to swap notes with colleagues like Juan Bordallo, Paco Carrasco, Eva Reina, Sergio Castillo, Manuel Estévez and Macarena Infantes — a whole crop of names I’m sure we’ll be hearing plenty about.
